**Weight: 135–140 kg / 298–309 lb (estimate)**

So today is the day.

Last night I finally laced a pair of brand new trainers that have been sitting in my closet for three fucking months. There was nothing wrong with them. I liked them. I wanted to wear them. I just couldn’t be arsed to lace them.

And then I did it, just before I left for the airport. It took about a minute.

It sounds completely ridiculous, but I think that’s when something clicked. I’ve spent three months walking past a pair of shoes because I couldn’t be bothered to do something that would take sixty seconds.

I’ve told my coach before I’m lazy, and I think he wanted to dive into my past and blame my parents for this somehow. But no, I’m lazy.

There are plenty of areas of my life where I expect a lot of myself and, probably more noticeably, a lot of other people. Yet somehow I can also be the person who leaves a pair of trainers unlaced for three months. I can talk about wanting to lose weight, get fitter, sort things out and stop putting shit off, while repeatedly deciding I’ll do it later.

So that’s what this is about.

I’m 43, I’m somewhere around 135–140 kg (298–309 lb), and I’m fed up with how easily I put things off. I’m not actually weighing myself today because I’m on vacation and don’t have a scale, so that’s an estimate. When I get home I’ll get the real number, however ugly it is.

I could also very easily wait until then to start this. I’m on vacation. I’m eating out. I’m away from my normal routine. September would be a much cleaner starting point.

But that’s exactly what I always fucking do. I’ll start when I’m home. I’ll start Monday. I’ll do it after this trip. I’ll deal with it later.

So I’m starting now.

Admittedly, I haven’t exactly come flying out of the gates.

The first thing I did when I arrived in the UK today was get a huge Red Bull and an English breakfast. Then tonight I absolutely caned a Nando’s takeaway with extra chicken. So if you’re looking for Day 1 of an inspirational weight-loss transformation, this probably isn’t it.

But I didn’t have a drink tonight.

Normally, on holiday it would be incredibly easy to have one. And then probably another. Instead, I didn’t.

So I’m taking the win. But really it’s because I was too lazy to get one. Tomorrow I’m with family and that always involves a drink. And I’m there for 6 nights. I’ll try and find a win somewhere.

**Anyway…** Starting doesn’t have to mean suddenly becoming good at everything. Today I ate too much, drank a couple Red Bulls and a coke and started this whole thing without even knowing exactly how much I weigh.

But I laced the fucking trainers!!!
